GUELPH – Exemplary students are recognized by Wellington Catholic District School Board officials as VIP students each month.
VIP students make notable impressions.
This month, two of the three students recognized during the school board’s meeting on April 2 were from Centre Wellington.
Sofia Trussell
Sofia Trussell is a Grade 8 student who has attended St. Mary Catholic School in Elora since she was in Grade 2.
Trustee Joe Tersigni presented Trussell with the award, and read out a report from her teachers and principal Justin Di Loreto, outlining what makes Trussell deserving of the recognition.
Trussell is described as respectful, helpful and well-rounded, with creative and artistic talents as well as academic excellence.
“She has the incredibly unique ability to connect with everyone whom she crosses paths with, and … always thinks of others before herself,” officials say.
Officials describe Trussell as a positive role model for peers, both in and out of the classroom, who is admired by other students and well-respected by staff.
She is involved with organizing Spirit Days, dances, the school Skate-A-Thon, bake sale, and Popcorn Fridays.
“She is truly an individual that leads by example and is not afraid to share her many talents,” officials say.
Trussell’s parents and two of her siblings attended the meeting to hear about why she was selected for the award.
Halle Bolen

Halle Bolen is a Grade 8 student at St. Joseph Catholic School in Fergus.
Trustee Andrew Finoro presented Bolen with her VIP award, while her principal and parents looked on.
The trustee read a report about Bolen’s accomplishments that was prepared by her principal and teachers.
The report describes Bolen as someone who lives with open arms, loves with an open heart, and learns with an open mind – the core values taught at St. Joseph.
“She is a motivated, conscientious and resilient student [who] works diligently in order to achieve her goals.
“She flourishes in all areas by demonstrating acceptance, compassion and determination.”
Halle helps in the school office and with kindergarten students, distributes popcorn and pizza to other students every week, plays on the soccer and basketball teams, and is a “dedicated member to our intramural program, student council, and graduation committee,” officials state.
“She is a strong leader, one who constantly helps to support and guide her peers,” the report continues.
“She works hard to ensure that everyone feels supported, welcomed and valued.”
Halle’s parents and principal Todd Goodwin accompanied her to the meeting.
