GUELPH – Evelyn Giannopoulos is the new associate director of the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB), following what the board calls an “extensive search” to fill the role.
Retirements and resignations within the executive committee over the past several months led to a “reimagining of roles and responsibilities while filling vacancies,” officials state in a press release. While associate director is a new role in the board, it does not expand the committee, officials note.
Giannopoulos has served as superintendent of student achievement and well-being at the Waterloo Region District School Board since 2017.
She also has experience as a principal, vice-principal and teacher, and has worked in guidance and special education.
Giannopoulos serves on the boards of directors for the Ontario Public Supervisory Officers Association and the Educational Computing Network of Ontario.
“I am deeply honored to be stepping into the role of associate director with the Upper Grand District School Board,” said Giannopoulos.
“I am looking forward to joining a highly skilled, deeply dedicated and caring leadership team who are steadfast in their desire to prepare students for a better tomorrow.
“I am eager to bring my passion and experience to this role, and I am excited to collaborate with the educators, staff, families, partners and trustees at Upper Grand.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such an outstanding community.”
Giannopoulos’ first day will be on April 29. Changes to executive committee responsibilities will be posted publicly on the board website at that time.
