GUELPH – The Friends of the Guelph Public Library (FGPL) may not be able to offer its annual community book sale this year, unless it finds a new home.
Significant layout changes at its present location mean the library cannot hold the sale there this year.
“The 2024 sale will be our 16th annual sale, something that has become a much-anticipated community event and a tremendous source of good quality, extremely low-cost reading and entertainment materials,” stated Friends of the Guelph Public Library chair Ian Findlay in an email to the Advertiser.
All proceeds benefit the Guelph Public Library, for which the group has raised $1 million to date through previous sales.
For its new Guelph location, the FGPL is looking for the following:
– minimum 10,000 to 15,000 square feet, preferably one large, open space – such as a warehouse floor, or an empty store floor;
– adjacent parking;
– washrooms;
– ground floor entrance that is accessible to people with special needs;
– loading dock, or large overhead delivery door to permit large vehicle access;
– occupancy for two to three months; and
– free or discounted rent (charitable tax receipt available) with utilities negotiable.
“We are seeking someone in the community who will step forward to assist us finding a suitable space so that we can carry on planning this year’s sale,” stated a recent FGPL press release.
