GUELPH – Are you ready for the total solar eclipse happening on April 8?
The Guelph Public Library has been offering free solar eclipse glasses since March 20 in the Main Library (100 Norfolk Street) at the main floor service desk.
The solar viewing glasses are free on a first-come, first-serve basis with a limit of four glasses per family.
This is a sight in the sky that you do not want to miss, but you will need to protect yourself and your family.
Guelph will see the solar eclipse starting at 2:03pm, in which the Moon will start to cover the Sun. The maximum total eclipse will be at 3:12pm and will end by 4:30pm.
During this time, it is dangerous to look directly at the sun without proper eye protection.
You will need to wear special solar eclipse glasses as regular sunglasses will not protect your eyes.
Solar eclipse glasses are not a toy, and children should only use them with adult supervision.
They must be inspected each time before use and should not be used if they are damaged, torn, punctured or separated from the frame in any way.
It is not recommended to use them with other optical devices. Full user instructions are available on all eclipse glasses being handed out.
Area residents can drop by the Main Library to pick up free solar eclipse glasses while supplies last, in order to view the solar eclipse safely with friends and family.
