It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Maria (Mary) KleinGebbinck in her 91st year in the afternoon of March 11th at Groves Memorial Community Hospital. Predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years Ted, and cherished mother of Marian (Gary) Merrett, Carolyn (Russell) Wilson, JoAnne (Steve) Kotlarz, and John (Amanda Jacobs) KleinGebbinck. Beloved Oma to eight grandchildren, Katelyn, Cory, Scott, Derek, Talia,Tanner, Joseph and Christina. Predeceased by her brothers Janus, Harry, Francis and Jan Huijbregts and her sister Odelia Matheeuwsen and parents Jan and Antonia Huijbregts from the Netherlands. She is survived by her sister Francisca Huijbregts. She will be fondly remembered by nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Mary fulfilled her sense of adventure when she emigrated from the Netherlands in 1959 to begin a new life in Canada with her husband Ted. Their dream of owning their own dairy farm came true in Fergus in 1963. Mary was an integral part of growing a successful dairy operation. After spending many busy years raising four children, time permitted her to become more involved in community activities like being a member of the St. Joseph CWL and leading Shands 4-H clubs. After retiring from the dairy farm, Ted and Mary started a cash crop business, finally allowing them to travel. Mary was an accomplished 5-pin bowler, dancer and card player, and later on was active in lawn and carpet bowling and shuffleboard. Of all of her activities, what Mary enjoyed the most was being a mother to her four children and spending time with her eight grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Graham A Giddy Funeral Home & Chapel, 280 St. David St. South in Fergus on Friday, March 22nd, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Funeral service will be conducted at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024 at 10:30am. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment at St. Marys/St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Elora. If you wish to make a memorial donation in Mary’s memory, the family would appreciate that you consider St. Joseph Church, Groves Memorial Community Hospital Foundation, and the Centre Wellington Food Bank.
