FERGUS – WeeAlec Productions will present an evening of traditional music and dance in celebration of National Tartan Day, taking place at the Fergus Grand Theatre on April 6.
Headlining the event is North Atlantic Drift, a musical ensemble that embodies the centuries-long tradition of musical exchange between Ireland, Scotland and the East coast of Canada.
Brian Taheny from Sligo, Ireland, Dan MacDonald from Cape Breton Island, and Ross Griffiths from the Ontario piping tradition form the trio.
Their performance promises a fusion of Celtic sounds, reflecting the diverse Celtic musical landscape, officials say. A number of Highland dancers will be joining the band as well.
In addition to North Atlantic Drift, the evening will feature the Fergus Pipe Band.
Originating in Canada in the mid-1980s, National Tartan Day commemorates Scottish heritage and culture and has since become a tradition throughout North America and around the world.
“We are thrilled to host such a special event in honor of National Tartan Day,” said Scott Moir of WeeAlec Productions.
“This concert will showcase the vibrant tapestry of Celtic music and provide an opportunity for our community to come together to celebrate and share our heritage.”
The concert will begin at 8pm at the Fergus Grand Theatre, located at 244 St. Andrew St. W.
