GUELPH – Erin Grade 8 student Shayle Cappellina has made significant contributions to St. John Brebeuf Catholic School.
“Compassion and kindness are his superpowers,” said trustee Andrew Finoro.
And Cappellina was recognized for these contributions during the Wellington Catholic District School Board meeting on March 4.
“During his time at St. John Brebeuf, Shayle has continually used his God given talents to reflect Catholic values from our school community,” states a report prepared by his principal and teachers, read by Finoro.
“Whether it is in the classroom, during recess, or at a sporting event or field trip, Shayle is respectful, kind, and empathetic to everyone he encounters.”
He is part of every athletic club the school offers and helps to distribute lunches to other students.
“Shayle is also very determined, never shying away from academic material and applying it to unique situations,” the report continues.
“His drive to be successful results in pushing others to do better, making our classroom an amazing place to learn each day.
“More importantly, Shayle has the kindest demeanor I have witnessed in a student in my entire career,” wrote his teacher Lucas LeBlanc.
Cappellina’s principal and teachers describe him as cheerful, dependable, trustworthy, and responsible.
His parents, grandma, teacher and principal attended the school board meeting during which Cappelina was presented with the VIP award.
“We are just so proud of him,” Shayle’s mom Cynthia Cappellina told the Advertiser.
“And of the school, too, because they are so supportive and loving.”
“In today’s world, we need more young people like Shayle,” Finoro said.
