Cities Love Farmers is taking place this Sunday at The Woolwich Arms & Arrow Pub to celebrate the connection between cities and the farming industry.
The evening will include a movable feast featuring Ontario grown ingredients, agriculture awareness activities that will enlighten attendees on the process of getting their food onto the table, and special guest Mayor Karen Farbridge will speak on the importance of agriculture to sustaining a city.
Cities Love Farmers is being organized by a group of students from the Conestoga College event management program and is designed to enlighten urban people of the importance of agriculture and to decrease the feeling of disconnect that rural people sometimes feel from urban centres.
During the event guests will be asked to write a message of thanks on the Cities Love Farmers Thank-A-Farmer poster.
Guests will also be provided with gifts for attending including the Wellington County Buy Local Buy Fresh map, and they will have the chance to win other great prizes.
The menu will feature bison meatballs, Leamington hot house tomato bruschetta, Northern Ontario bean hummus and crudités, Wellington County Berkshire pork in cream sauce, breaded portobello mushrooms with cheddar dip, and fair trade chocolate brownies.
The evening is sponsored by Organic Meadow and by Swanston Equipment Ltd.
Tickets can be purchased for $20 prior to the event by visiting The Woolwich Arms in Guelph, or by emailing citieslovefarmers@live.ca.
