ELORA – The Farmland Forum is coming to Elora on March 21. The full-day hybrid event at The GrandWay Events Centre and online will feature guest speakers and discussion panels.
Hosted by the Ontario Farmland Trust (OFT) this year’s “Future of Ontario Farmland” forum celebrates the trust’s 20th anniversary with a return to dialogue and round-table discussions which sparked the creation of the trust.
This year’s forum seeks to explore innovative solutions to pressing challenges of farmland preservation in Ontario, a press release states.
“This year’s forum is about recognizing that protecting farmland is only part of the equation,” OFT executive director Martin Straathof stated.
“Discussions will not only focus on farmland protection but also on breaking down barriers for new farmers to ensure a vibrant and sustainable future for Ontario’s agri-food sector,” he added.
Straathoft encourages anyone with an interest in those issues to attend.
The importance of policy for farmland preservation, a lack of succession planning for Ontario’s food system, and roles for municipalities and organizations will be discussed.
