GUELPH – Police here are investigating separate incidents last week involving children being approached by adults before or after school.
At about 8:30am on Feb. 21, two children, aged 12 and 10, were walking near Fife and Elmira roads when a driver “stopped, made eye contact with the children and gestured with his hand for them to approach,” Guelph Police stated in a press release. The man was described as white and was driving a white panel-style van.
The previous day, on Feb. 21 at about 4pm, an 11-year-old girl walking home on Brant Avenue near Victoria Road North noticed a man walking behind her.
“The man’s walking seemed to speed up and he made a comment to the child, who began to run. She got home and told her father and they went to look for the male, but were unable to locate him,” Guelph Police stated in a press release. He was described as a white male in his 50s, average to medium build, with a moustache and deep voice. He was wearing a dark jacket and a black beanie-style hat.
Anyone with information about either incident can call police at 519-824-1212 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or at csgw.tips.
