The Edward Johnson Music Foundation has announced its musicians in schools program, has been renamed Do Re Mi – An Interactive Music Education Program.
The new look will be launched at St. Joseph’s Catholic School, in Fergus on March 28 at 10:30am. It will feature a one-hour classroom workshop presented by Willem Moolenbeek to over 40 grade 1 students.
“We envisioned a unique custom logo that creates an impression that someone would first look at, recognize, and associate with music education for young people,” said Rosemary Smith, Executive Director of the foundation. “With a new logo, we also hope to raise a greater public awareness about the importance of music education in our schools.”
Do Re Mi is a music-making activity for children. It is a program that takes elementary school students through the rudiments of music, and allows them to acquire music skills and stimulate their creativity.
The program consists of instructional workshops for teachers and a companion study guide that includes hands-on activities and lesson plans. It is designed to help teachers and students achieve the provincial music curriculum expectations, highlighted with a musician’s visit to the classroom.
