MINTO – Local non-profit organizations can now apply for a share of the proceeds from the 14th Annual Minto Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament.
The 2024 tournament will be held Aug. 8 at Pike Lake Golf Centre.
A press release from the town states the application process is now open and will close on March 8.
The organizing committee is looking for applications from non-profit organizations within the Town of Minto that fit into one of three categories: community betterment, service club or sports club.
Over the past 13 years, the tournament has raised over $140,000 and has assisted 46 local groups with financial expenses or events in the community.
Last year four organizations benefited from tournament proceeds: the Palmerston Homecoming 2025 Committee, the Harriston Figure Skating Club, the Grey Wellington Theatre Guild and the Teviotdale Historical Society.
They used the funds, respectively, to plan events to bring current and past residents together, teaching youth sports, supporting the arts, and celebrating the history of Teviotdale.
Previous funds have been used to replace playground equipment, purchase new sports equipment, assist a refugee family, support mental health initiatives and assist the Canada Packers Reunion 2018.
“We look forward to supporting and assisting our local groups again this year,” organizers state.
