CAMBRIDGE – Guelph/Eramosa Mayor Chris White will continue in his role as chair of the Grand River Conservation Authority for another term.
He was acclaimed by the GRCA board of directors at the general membership meeting on Jan. 26.
North Dumfries Mayor Sue Foxton was acclaimed to the role of first vice-chair, and Brantford mayor Kevin Davis was acclaimed as second vice-chair at the same meeting.
Elections are held for the positions at the first board meeting each year. The 26-member GRCA board is comprised of representatives appointed by the municipalities within the Grand River watershed.
“Conservation authorities in Ontario have experienced unprecedented change over the past few years due to amendments to the Conservation Authorities Act and other provincial regulations,” White stated in a press release.
“I look forward to continuing to provide leadership to the GRCA board, working with all levels of government and supporting GRCA staff as we continue to implement the changes.”
White has been a member of the board since 2014. He was elected to Guelph/Eramosa council in 2003, became mayor in 2006 and served as Wellington County warden from 2011-14.
During the meeting members expressed gratitude for the enthusiasm for the year ahead.
“I am honoured to continue to work with fellow board members,” Foxton stated.
Davis stated: “I have a keen interest in the river and the health of the watershed, and look forward to working with all members.”
