WOODS, William “Charles”

Passed away on January 26, 2024, in Waterloo, ON at the age of 69. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William Charles Woods, a beloved son, cherished brother, and uncle. Born on a summer day in Fergus, Ontario, Charlie’s journey through life was one of curiosity, intellect, and unwavering love for the arts and, above all, his family. Beloved brother of Dianne Pope (late Robert), Marilyn Emmerson (Don), Catherine Joyce (Gord), Barry Woods (Deanna), Lloyd Woods (Lindsay). Loving uncle of Jeff, Michael, Danelle, Angela, Eric, Jo-Ann, Pam, Scott, Tosha and Lauren. Predeceased by nephews Brad and Ryan. Having studied economics at the University of Toronto, Charlie’s intellectual curiosity and dedication to knowledge led him to a fulfilling career at the library at the University of Waterloo, as an Information Technology Senior Systems Administrator & Analyst, where he worked until his retirement four years ago. Charlie spoke often of his love and admiration for the close network of friends he developed at not just the university library, but at other libraries in Canada and abroad. This network of friends extended beyond his time at the university until the present moment. People have told us that “He is just the nicest man,” and recall his quirky sense of humour and his incredible mind for details (don’t play trivial pursuit with him if you want to win). Beyond his professional accomplishments, Charlie was a man of diverse interests and refined tastes. He loved literature and history, classical music, dance, theatre, and other forms of art. His appreciation for the finer things in life was a testament to his discerning spirit and enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to share in his passions. A loving uncle to a multitude of nieces and nephews, Charlie’s generosity knew no bounds. His thoughtful gifts on birthdays and Christmases created lasting memories and served as a reminder of his enduring love for family. As we bid farewell to William Charles Woods, let us remember the warmth of his laughter, the depth of his intellect, and the generosity of his heart. There are no services at this time.
