Puslinch council has received another bill regarding the township’s dispute with two former fire officials, bringing the total reported legal cost as of April 1 to just under $21,300.
The latest bill from Toronto law firm Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti for $5,958 relates to “services rendered for the period of March 2009.” Payment of the bill was unanimously approved by council on June 3.
In April the township payed two bills to the same firm, for work from December to February, totalling $15,338.
The bills stem from work regarding the Dec. 8 firings of Fire Chief Dan Quinnell and his son, Fire Prevention Officer Richard Quinnell.
The pair, fired amidst allegations of financial wrongdoing and “intimidation” of firefighters, has launched a wrongful dismissal lawsuit, seeking almost $900,000 in damages.
None of the allegations from either side have been proven in court.
Interestingly, the latest legal bill included just the total cost and not itemized descriptions of services, like the previous two bills.
In April councillor Susan Fielding expressed concern that the bills – available to the press and public – contained detailed information.
