The town “where your family belongs” will also be adding Family Day to its list of statutory holidays.
The issue came up at Minto council in late January.
Staff qualify for a number of other statutory holidays including New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Remembrance Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Councillor Rick Hembly joked, “You can never have enough holidays.”
Clerk Barb Wilson said the change “was not our idea.”
It is in accordance with the Employment Standards Act.
Mayor David Anderson said, “It all depends whether you are an employer or an employee.”
