CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Centre Wellington Community Foundation’s Jack R. MacDonald Community Fund’s 2023 granting program has provided two grants totalling $8,000 to local organizations.
Grants support projects that will have a positive impact within the former Village of Elora boundaries.
The Grove Hub Fergus received $2,000 towards helping to provide transportation to youth from Elora so they too can take full advantage of all the activities being offered at the Grove Hub in Fergus.
The grant will help break down barriers to access for Elora youth.
A second grant of $6,000 went to the Elora Singers for their Supportive Arts for Adults with (dis)Abilities program run in partnership with the Elora Centre for the Arts.
From January to December 2024, the Elora Singers are offering weekly choral music as part of the Elora Centre for the Arts’ Supportive Arts program for adults with (dis)abilities.
Jack R. MacDonald was a wealthy businessman and inventor who had a soft spot for Elora.
Upon his death in 2013, he bequeathed $3.436 million to the Village of Elora for the betterment of the village and its residents.
The township used $1.8 million of it to build the pedestrian bridge in downtown Elora and the remaining funds were dispersed to other local groups and projects.
The Centre Wellington Community Foundation (CWCF) is a public, charitable foundation created for and by the people of Centre Wellington.
Its mission is to strengthen the Centre Wellington community by combining community leadership, support for donors, and community-focused granting.
