The local arts council here is offering a one-day workshop on the interpersonal skills of human resources management.
People are the greatest assets in the arts and culture sector, and learning how to get the best out of people is the objective of The Art of Managing People. Led by Louisa Kratka, the workshop is especially designed for those working in the cultural sector: managers, supervisors, arts administrators, artists, board members, and volunteers.
It focuses on three areas of human resources management: interviewing, motivation, and performance feedback. Participants will be given the opportunity to experience conducting interviews, and giving and receiving feedback. They will learn the key elements of motivating people, how to bring a great team together, and how to keep people engaged.
With a background in the arts and employment counselling fields, Kratka has worked as an artist educator with various institutions including the Burlington Art Centre, and also brings experience from her work with a local employment agency, 2nd Chance Employment Counselling. In addition, she has recently participated in an intensive training session with the Cultural Careers Council of Ontario.
The workshop will be held on Feb. 8 from 9am to 4:30pm, at the Guelph Arts Council office, 147 Wyndham Street, Suite 404. The cost is $40 for council members and $50 for non-members.
