A familiar name will be taking up the role as Arthur’s new fire chief.
As of Jan. 1, Deputy-Chief Jim Morrison will become the new Fire Chief of the Arthur department, while fire captain Robert McKenzie will become the new Deputy-Chief.
The changes come in the wake of the resignation of Chief Brent Barnes.
Morrison and McKenzie had applied for the chief’s position.
Councillor Ross Chaulk said the decision was not the “slam dunk” he originally thought it would be.
“Both Jim and Rob are qualified individuals,” Chaulk said.
Chaulk believes the result should work out well.
“They are two different guys whose experience should complement each other,” he said.
Morrison is a long-time firefighter serving on the department as long as council members can remember.
McKenzie, who had served as a fire captain, is also a trained paramedic operating out of the Arthur fire station.
