GUELPH/ERAMOSA – Speedside United Church will be doing something new for the Christmas season this year: on Dec. 10, it will be hosting a “Christmas sing along.”
Doors will open at the church for 1:30pm and the entertainment will begin at 2pm.
Guest musicians will be leading as attendees listen and sing along to some classic Christmas tunes.
Hot cider, coffee and snacks will be available at intermission.
“I think we’re just looking forward to a relaxing afternoon filled with Christmas music,” said Bruce Miller, one of the organizers.
The idea for this event was sparked when church officials decided they wanted to do a simpler event they would enjoy organizing.
“And it’s something for the community to come and be involved in too,” said Miller.
He added that 25 years ago, the church was used by a Fergus businessman who held an event called “Music at Speedside” for which tickets were sold.
“It was very popular at the time. And the reason why it was so popular is because of the acoustics in the church,” he said, noting Speedside Church is octagonal.
“I’m not a musician, but people say the acoustics are very good,” he said. “Better than you’d expect for a building that’s 145 years old.”
Speedside United Church is located at the corner of Wellington Roads 29 and 22.
