It’s going to cost over $100,000 to deal with the traffic signals in Arthur.
Tenders came in to Wellington North Township on Sept. 9 but only one bid, from Stacey Electric Company Ltd., was received.
That bid came in at $107,457 – slightly above the estimated cost of the project.
In July, the province announced funding for the signals on Highway 6 in Arthur through the Connecting Link program.
Documents from the township’s engineering firm, BM Ross and Associates, indicated the Ministry of Transportation was contacted and had no objections to awarding the contract to Stacey.
Darren Alexander, on behalf of B.M. Ross, wrote, “Since the lowest tender is acceptable contractually, and the tenderer is experienced in traffic signal work, further analysis is limited to the lowest bid. We therefore recommend that this contract be awarded to Stacey Electric Company for the total tender sum of $107,457.”
Mayor Mike Broomhead added that even though the bid was over the budgeted amount, it was the only bidder for the work, “and this is covered 100% by the MTO.”
