Guelph-Eramosa council has agreed to provide in-kind financial support to a local firefighters’ breakfast next month and the Parade of Lights in December.
The township will waive the fee for Rockmosa community centre Oct. 10 from 8am to 12pm for an annual charity breakfast hosted by the Rockwood-Eramosa Firefighters’ Association. A letter from fire prevention officer Bernie Liebig, stated the proceeds will likely be donated to the new medical facility in Rockwood.
Council also approved a request from the Rockwood farming community committee for in-kind support for its annual Parade of Lights, which this year occurs on Dec. 10.
Public Works Manager Ken Gagnon said the parade work cost about $3,150 last year, and annually includes:
– closing Highway 7 and County Road 27;
– adding the county and Ministry of Transportation onto the township’s insurance to cover the event;
– a planning meeting with the OPP, township fire department, and works staff to coordinate traffic control;
– notifying emergency service of the road closures;
– arranging signage and barriers; and
– providing safety vests and two-way radios.
In what deputy-clerk Meaghen Reid called a “housekeeping item,” council approved retroactive in-kind support for the Eden Mills Writers’ Festival held on Sept. 20.
That includes providing picnic tables, a dumpster, garbage containers, a water tanker, signs and traffic control equipment free of charge.
Mayor Chris White said he was at the Writers’ Festival on Sunday and organizers were once again very appreciative of the support from the township.
Councillor Doug Breen said the Writer’s Festival and Parade of Lights are both great events that started out small but are now synonymous with the villages where the take place.
