ELORA – Congregation members attached over 300 weatherproof, cloth feathers to netting and installed them over the doorway arches of St. John’s Anglican Church in Elora as a memorial to the children who did not return home from residential schools.
The Orange Feather Project, initiated by the knitters and quilters at St. John’s, is a public installation that is a symbol of lament and a visible expression of our commitment to learn more about our history as a nation and a church.
The church was open on National Truth and Reconciliation Day, Sept. 30, for people to walk through the doors of the church underneath a garland of lamenting feathers.
People came in the church where resources on the 94 Calls to Action were available and people took time to remember, lament and pray for the continued work towards reconciliation.
