FERGUS – The Wellington Advertiser has been named one of the top three community newspapers in its class in the country.
The newspaper was recognized three times recently at the 2023 Canadian Community Newspaper Awards, which are organized by News Media Canada.
The paper placed third in the best all-round newspaper category (circulation over 17,500).
It also finished third for best front page and second for best editorial page in the same circulation category.
“Your dedication, talent, and passion have enriched your readers’ lives and strengthened the bonds of your community,” states a letter from News Media Canada president and CEO Paul Deegan.
“Your work exemplifies the very essence of community journalism and is a testament to your commitment to the invaluable role that community newspapers play in strengthening our society.”
The Montreal newspaper The Suburban, placed first in all three categories in which the Advertiser ran.
News of the awards came to the Advertiser newsroom on Oct. 2 – the beginning of National Newspaper Week.
“I’m really proud of our team and their continuing pursuit of excellence. Top-three finishes out of hundreds of titles across Canada is remarkable,” said Advertiser publisher Dave Adsett.
“That we manage to have interesting conversations on our editorial page is a source of personal pride. Not every community can lay claim to that.”
