GUELPH – Trees for Guelph has planned three tree planting events this fall.
And Bill Gaines, a retired forester and arborist, will be demonstrating planting techniques continuously throughout the planting sessions.
So come for as little or as long as you can. And learn all the techniques to plant for high survival rates.
Community planting
– Sept. 30 – Norm Jary Park;
– Oct.14 – Grange Park Natural Area; and
– Oct. 21 – Kortright Hills Natural Area.
All plantings start at 9:30am and run until 12:30pm.

Everyone is welcome.
Drop by for as long as you can. Plant one tree or plant for all three hours.
Register on site on the day at the welcome table. They plant rain or shine or (hopefully not) snow.
You may bring your favourite planting shovel but if you don’t have gear, don’t worry. Shovels and buckets will be provided.
But do wear gardening gloves, sturdy footwear and layers of clothing that are comfortable to work and have fun in.
“We also recommend a hat, pants, long sleeves and high socks to protect from biting insects and too much sun,” organizers say.
Also bring your own refillable water bottle. There will be a portable washroom at all the sites.

Are you a high school student wanting volunteer hours? Bring your log sheet so we can record your efforts.
Take Root initiative
The 2023 Spring Take Root residential planting initiative exceeded all expectations, organizers say.
