FERGUS – The Elora Fergus Arts Council is partnering with the Windjammers to host a charity concert to benefit the Groves Hospital Foundation.
The event will be held on Oct. 1 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fergus.
Entrance will be by donation, with proceeds supporting the purchase of a new “mini-C arm” for Groves Memorial Community Hospital’s surgical unit.
Founded in 1993 by Larry Orr, the Windjammers swiftly made a mark in the musical domain, earning the title “Canada’s Finest Pops Wind Ensemble” after their 1997 performance at the Guelph Spring Festival.
Beyond entertaining audiences, they’ve demonstrated a longstanding tradition of supporting local charities through pops-style concerts, officials say. They have raised nearly $90,000 through their philanthropic efforts over the decades.
As the Windjammers celebrate their 30th anniversary, they have chosen to showcase their musical talents to raise funds to advance surgical care for our community.
Official say the new mini-C arm will greatly advance orthopedic surgical procedures at Groves, by allowing surgeons to take dynamic X-ray images during surgery.
This will be especially helpful for the nearly 200 hand/wrist/forearm surgeries expected to take place at Groves this year.
“We were thrilled when the Elora Fergus Arts Council approached us, earlier this year, with the idea of a Windjammers concert to benefit Groves,” said Groves Hospital Foundation executive director Lori Arsenault.
“Third-party events, like this charity performance, are a wonderful way for our community to support the purchase of vital equipment and technological tools for our hospital. We are so excited for the concert and thank the Windjammers and arts council for choosing us as beneficiaries.”
