WELLINGTON COUNTY — The annual Terry Fox Run will be taking place on Sept. 17 in several municipalities in Wellington County to help raise money for cancer research.
The Terry Fox Run has become a fall tradition in Canada, with over 650 communities participating each year.
Erin
The Erin Terry Fox Run has been hosted by the Erin Optimist Club since it first started. This year marks its 40th run.
Located at Centre 2000 (Dundas and Main Streets) in Erin, Terry Fox Run registration will begin at 8:30am on Sept. 17.
The run will commence at 9am and end at 12:30pm. Distances are marked with routes being accessible for bicycles and well as walkers and runners.
“I think the Terry Fox Run is sort of special for a number of reasons, obviously his story and the fact that it’s being carried on, and children are learning about it,” said organizer Duncan Bull.
“Many people have participated maybe when they were younger, and now they may be older and have children of their own that may be participating.
“I think it holds a special place and I hope it always does.”

Organizers will be set up outside No Frills grocery store in Mount Forest with stickers, pledge sheets and Terry Fox T-shirts for sale on run day and will also take donations at that location.
Tax receipts will be issued for any donation over $10.
The local committee will also be at No Frills on Sept. 16 from 8am until noon. All proceeds from the event will go to cancer research.
