Blue Bonnet Lassies compete at Fergus Scottish festival

CENTRE WELLINGTON — After a busy week of dancing around town, 14 Blue Bonnet Lassies School of Highland Dance students attended the Fergus Scottish Festival on Aug. 12 and 13.

Saturday

At the Saturday Highland Competition in the Primary 6 years category, Brianna Earle placed fifth in Pas de Basques and High cuts, sixth in Sword Dance, and eighth in Fling. 

In the Beginner 9 years category, Scarlett Jackson placed fifth in Seann Truibhas and eighth in Fling. 

In the Beginner 10 years category, Maribelle McBroom placed fourth in Seann Truibhas, and Cayley Simpson placed fifth in Seann Truibhas and sixth in Fling. 

For the Beginner 11 and under 13 years category Brooke Bailey placed sixth in Fling and Sword. In the Intermediate 14 years, Ainsley Stewart placed third in Strathspey & Reel of Tulloch, fourth in Fling and Sword, and fifth in Seann Truibhas; and Eila Gillies placed third in Fling and second in  Strathspey & Reel of Tulloch. 

In the Intermediate 17 years and over category, Avaline Booth placed first in Sword, fifth in Seann Truibhas, Ashley Elliott placed third in Seann Truibhas, and fifth in Fling.

Sunday

In the Beginner 8 years, Harlyn Heathers placed third in  Strathspey & Highland Reel, and sixth in Flora and Lilt. 

In the Beginner 9 years category, Scarlett Jackson placed third in Strathspey & Highland Reel, third in Lilt, and seventh in Flora; and Hadley Heathers placed seventh in Lilt and eighth in Flora. 

In the Beginner 10 and under 12 years Cayley Simpson placed third in Strathspey & Highland Reel and fifth in Lilt, and Maribell McBroom placed sixth in Lilt and Flora. 

In the Beginner 12 and under 14 years category Brooke Bailey placed second in Strathspey & Highland Reel, and third in Flora. 

In the Intermediate 14 years, Ainsley Stewart placed second in Flora and sixth in Lilt; and Eila Gillies placed sixth in Irish Jig. 

In the Intermediate 17 years and over category Avaline Booth placed fifth in Irish Jig, and Ashley Elliott placed first in Irish Jig, and second in Lilt and Flora earning her the overall trophy for having the highest aggregate points in her group. 

In the Premier category, Emma Horsley placed sixth in Village Maid and Flora.  

Sunday national competition — Cayley Simson, Emma Horsley, Violet Earle, Ashley Elliott, Harlyn Heathers, Avaline Booth, Eila Gillies, Scarlett Jackson, Brooke Bailey, Gabby Jackson, Hadley Heathers, Aisnley Stewart and Maribell McBroom participated in the national highland competition at the Fergus Scottish Festival on Aug. 13.
