ERIN – An inspector from the provincial labour ministry has issued five orders to a contractor completing linear work for Erin’s new wastewater treatment plant.
Following a July 17 complaint, five “orders” were issued to Nabolsy Contracting Inc.
The Mississauga-based contractor was awarded a $41-million contract by the town last year for linear and micro-tunnelling work.
Ministry spokesperson Jennifer Rushby declined to answer any specific questions from the Advertiser.
“As this investigation is ongoing, we can’t share specific details regarding the complaint, orders or next steps at this time,” Rushby wrote.
“Our priority has to be to protect the integrity of the investigation.”
Ministry inspectors can issue compliance orders pertaining to Occupational Health and Safety Act standards.
Orders can be appealed to the Ontario Labour Relations Board within 30 days after an order is issued.
Though the ministry’s spokesperson would not say whether a stop work order was issued, Erin spokesperson Lavina Dixit stated in a July 19 email, “I can confirm that there is no shut down.”
She later clarified on July 24, following emails from the Advertiser, that two excavators were operating close to overhead power lines and had been ordered to stop work “for a couple of hours.”
“The Ministry of Labour asked for some additional steps to be put into place for ensure further safety,” Dixit wrote.
