Obituary

of Harriston passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, in her 99th year. Wife of the late Edward Whittaker (1992). Mother of Susan Mitchell of Camrose, Alberta, Neil and Wendy Whittaker of Rockwood and Barbara Mundy of Calgary, Alberta. Grandmother of James and Jenn Mitchell, Bradley and Kate Mitchell, Sarah and Nathan Joyes, Shawn Whittaker, Martin Whittaker and Kate Feather, Bryan and Pam Mundy and Colin and Kate Mundy. Great-grandmother of Parker and Taylor, Makenna, Tanner, Logan, Ethan, Eleanor, Max Myles and Beau.  Sister of Douglas Anderson, Robert Anderson and John Anderson all of Harriston and remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Cecil and Jessie (Rumble) Anderson, her sister Dorothy Watson and husband Duncan, her sister-in-law Dorelene Anderson and son-in-law Grant Mitchell. Special thanks to nieces Peggy Raftis and Sharon Davies for their support of Joyce over the past few years. With their help she was able to stay in her own home which Joyce was very grateful for. Joyce was born on March 22, 1925 in Weston, Ontario. Joyce married Edward in Elia United Church on October 9, 1948. They bought a farm on Hwy 9 between Harriston and Teviotdale moving there on April 1st, 1949. Sold the farm in 1973 and built a home in Harriston. Joyce enjoyed her job at Fry’s. Joyce was very active in her community. She was a lifetime member of the Harriston Womens’ Institute and the United Church. She enjoyed golf, shuffleboard, bowling, lawn bowling and cards. Visitation was held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston, on Tuesday, July 18th from 6:00 to 8:00pm. The Celebration of Joyce’s life was held at Harriston United Church on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 1:00pm, with reception followed. Interment in Harriston Cemetery.
