GUELPH – The 10th annual Tour de Guelph, presented by Label Design Ltd. saw close to 3,000 community members contribute to exceed the cycling event’s $150,000 fundraising goal in support of Guelph General Hospital and numerous local charitable programs through the Rotary Clubs of Guelph South and Guelph Trillium.
Over 670 riders participated on June 25 and 2,100 individuals supported them with a donation.
The event also welcomed over 100 volunteers plus local business partners as sponsors, in-kind supporters and vendors.
“Tour de Guelph is so much more than a fundraiser, it’s an event that connects people across our diverse community and builds a sense of belonging through a shared love of cycling,” remarked Frank Oudesluys, Rotarian and Tour de Guelph volunteer co-chair.
Already more than $170,000 in net proceeds has been tallied as a result of this year’s event and donations are still coming in.
This brings the total net raised over the $1 million mark since the event started 10 years ago.
The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital’s portion of the proceeds will help the hospital purchase high priority patient care equipment for their surgical department.
“Rotary Club of Guelph Trillium and Rotary Club of Guelph South are proud to support the hospital through volunteer service to make Tour de Guelph happen each year; it’s our clubs’ way of giving to the hospital,” said Rotarian Clarence Haverson, Rotarian, Tour de Guelph volunteer co-chair.
Dozens of local charitable organizations have benefited from Tour de Guelph through its two Rotary partners, including Chalmers Community Service Centre, Food 4 Kids, Guelph Wellington Women in Crisis, Hope House and The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington.
Julie Byczynski, CEO of The Foundation of GGH, expressed thanks to Rotary for their Service Above Self.
“Our Rotary partners show unwavering commitment to the success of Tour de Guelph, from designing the numerous bike routes, putting up signs, coordinating rest stops and recruiting and managing the over 100 volunteers that are needed on the day of the event,” she said. “Our gratitude grows stronger each and every year of the Foundation’s partnership with Rotary Trillium and South.”
Tour de Guelph welcomes community members of all ages and abilities to register, fundraise and enjoy a bike ride together.
The 11th annual Tour de Guelph will be held on June 23, 2024.
