GUELPH – A Guelph man faces several charges after a child was threatened with a hatchet here last week.
At about 6:15pm on April 30, police were called to a townhouse complex in the west end of Guelph.
“Witnesses reported a male removed a hatchet from his car and approached a playground area where he brandished the hatchet while yelling at a small child. It is not believed they are known to each other,” police stated in a press release.
“Officers located the male sitting in his car. While speaking to him they observed signs of impairment, including slurred speech and an odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath. He was asked to provide a breath sample and refused.”
A 37-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, impaired operation and refusing a breath sample. He was held for a bail hearing.
