Of Damascus passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by the love of her family on Sunday, April 9, 2023 in her 87th year. Beloved wife of Emerson Stevenson for 56 years. Loving mother of Esther Stevenson of Durham, Karl Stevenson of Etobicoke, Brent Stevenson of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Bevin and Lisa Stevenson of Hanover, Greg Stevenson of Damascus and Heather and Kevin McNab of Chatsworth. Cherished grandmother of Ashley, Sierra, Brooke, Persephonie and Gabriel; Chanelle and Brent Jr.; Owen and Nathan; Mia, Aaliyah and Macaulay. Sister of the late Harold and Minnie Turner, the late Grant Turner, Margaret Anderson, the late Ross Turner and his wife Audrey, Melvin and Karin Turner, Freida Dippel and her husband the late Orland and the late Howard Turner. Fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews and friends. Eunice was born at the Chesley hospital, March 31st, 1936 and grew up on the family beef farm in the Hamlet of Scone. With a large family there was always chores to be done but she was able to take part in the local 4H club where she would show one of their prize calves. When pondering careers Eunice contemplated being a flight attendant amongst other things but after finishing high school she went off to Stratford to teachers college. Eunice taught in a one room school house for several years, early on in Toronto, before finishing her teaching career at the school in Damascus. She loved her students. Her china cabinet was full of china cups and saucers that she would get as gifts from her students showing their love for her in return too. She would attend Emmanuel Bible College after her teaching career for a short time as well. Eunice and Emerson met in 1965 and were married in the Hanover Missionary Church in Hanover June 17th ,1967. Heading to BC for their honeymoon. They started out with the house and a small barn and would work together to build several buildings that would be the homestead for her lifetime. Eunice was no stranger to hard work and was always working to provide for the family. She tended the very large garden always preserving and canning through the summer to prepare for the winter months. She would help out on the fields or wherever there was something that needed to be done. Eunice enjoyed lots of hobbies such as quilting, knitting and sewing but didn’t get a lot of time to enjoy it. If she got to sewing it was often sewing a patch on a pair of pants or darning a sock. Eunice also enjoyed flowers of many sorts and created a rock garden and flower beds around the house. She even set out on her own business venture purchasing some angus cows of her own which she would have for a number of years. If you ever came out to the farm to visit Eunice always wanted you to stay for a ‘bite’ stretching out whatever meal even if it meant adding some oatmeal to the soup. If you couldn’t stay it was almost impossible to leave with out having something wrapped up to take with you whether it was some cookies or whatever she had on hand. Eunice was fortunate for a long time to have good health. Eventually she was diagnosed with COPD. Eventually, the disease took mom’s abilities to do most tasks. You would never hear mom complain though and she never let it get her down. Mom would still help out as she was able, always wanting to be part of what was going on. What grounded mom most was her faith. At a young age she made a chose to follow Jesus. Early in the morning she would come downstairs spending time reading her bible before the busyness of the day would start. It was evident in watching mom that whatever may come she was grounded in an assurance that God would carry her through come what may. Mom’s health declined rapidly over Easter weekend. The very time she celebrated the death and resurrection of her Saviour. The symbol of love, hope, and of a new life to come. The family received friends at the Crawford Funeral Chapel, 243 George Street, Arthur on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. A Funeral Service of Remembrance was held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 1:00pm. Spring interment in Greenfield Cemetery, Arthur.
