MOOREFIELD – The Mapleton Historical Society’s annual meeting on May 12 will feature guest speaker Tracy Cain of Guelph.
TRACY CAIN
Cain is the descendant of Josephus Malott and Lucinda Brown, who settled in what was Peel Township in 1841, in the Wallenstein and Yatton area.
Cain has done extensive research on over 200 years of family history and uses storytelling, song and visuals to weave tales of adventure and resilience. One of her ancestors escaped slavery, one purchased his freedom, and one was freed by order of his master’s will.
Cain and her story was part of a History Channel program last year for Black History month.
Cain’s presentations are in demand all over Southern Ontario. Her first one was to Grade 6 to 8 students at her son’s school, so this event is suitable for older children and adults.
Everyone is invited to join the society on May 12 at 7 pm at the Maryborough Community Centre in Moorefield for this look at local history.
Business meeting
Organizers note there will be a short business meeting, as this is the society’s annual general meeting.
Refreshments will be provided.
