Our mom, Marie Antoinette (Toni) German, 79, of East Garafraxa, passed away on April 10, 2023 at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus. Mom was vibrant and outgoing, whose smile and exuberance garnered her a large and varied circle of friends and acquaintances. She had a quick wit, a sharp sense of humour, and yet was also a force to be reckoned with. An avid animal lover, she often nursed ill and injured barn cats and kittens back to health. She was a lifelong horsewoman, a passion sparked by riding her father’s Percheron mare in the woods surrounding their home in Campbellton, NB. She then went on to owning her own horses, showing and competing in events such as western speed events, English and Western Pleasure, and also Reining. She was a groom at Woodbine Racetrack for a time in her 20’s, and at the age of 54 took up Breakaway Roping and began competing in rodeos. Mom was a regular presence at Roping Assoc. of Ontario jackpot ropings, and roping clinics, spending many hours helping out and volunteering when not competing. Mom loved gardening, crossword puzzles, music, and dancing. She would often dance around the Livingroom solo, or convince our dad or one of us to join her. She was a loving mother, and raised three daughters, Kacey, Jodie-Ann, and Tracy with her husband, our Dad, Wray German (deceased), and a loving Granny to her grandson, Rowan. She will be greatly missed, and her passing has left a hole in many hearts. For those who wish, a donation to Equine Guelph www.thehorseportal.ca to a program of your choosing would be welcome.
