KENILWOTH – Wellington North council has awarded Hamilton-based Dayson Industrial Services a $1.54-million contract (tax-in) for rehabilitation work on the Mount Forest water tower.
The sandblasting company submitted the lowest of three bids received, and was recommended for the job by township staff.
The other two companies were MacDonald Applicators Ltd., with a tax-in bid of $1.64 million, and Landmark Municipal Services, with a tax-in bid of $2.3 million.
In 2021, council approved $950,000 for the project, and in 2022 the township was approved for an infrastructure grant of $826,795 bringing the township’s total available funding amount to $1.77 million.
Through the total project cost was forecasted at $1.12 million, operations director Matthew Aston warned last summer that the true cost was likely to increase once the project went to tender.
According to a March 6 report to council authored by Aston, the total project cost is now around $1.67 million once other costs such as safety upgrades and power line reconfiguration are added.
Aston told councillors on March 6 that work is likely to start in May or June and will take around three months to complete.
