Passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 5, 2023 at the age of 87. Predeceased by her loving husband and best friend, Morris Schnarr, in 2017. Loving mother of Colleen (Joe), Karen (the late Tom Bleskan), David (Paula), Michael (Leanne), Tom (Maria) and Christine. Proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren: Lisa, Erin (Ben), Rebecca (Greg), Heather (Wes), Katherine (Mike), Matthew, Patrick (Elizabeth), Tara, Emily, Gabriella, Elena, Tommy, Emi, and Ben. Lovingly remembered Aunt to many. Dear sister of Pat McCauley (Jim), John Paul (Jean) and Margaret Paul. Predeceased by her siblings Peter, Allan, Don and six step brothers. Joan was the first child born to her parents, Greg and Lavina Brohman (nee Kuntz). She grew up in an extended family with 12 siblings. As a child, she lived in Virgil and Elora, Ontario, started her career in Langley BC before settling in Kitchener. Like her mother, she was a Registered Nurse until motherhood called in 1960. Together with Morris, she raised 6 children in a small bungalow on Elkington Drive in Kitchener. The house will always be remembered as a gathering place for all the neighbourhood children. Joan was an active member of St. Anne’s Church and St. Anthony Daniel Church, including her involvement with the Catholic Women’s League for many years. Joan’s quiet strength was the foundation of the family. She had a special relationship with each of her children, her children’s spouses, and her grandchildren. She was always approachable and took the time to listen, understand, and provide guidance. She ensured that each family member felt free to follow their own path in life, always supported and uplifted by her unconditional love. Joan and Morris made an effort to visit their children no matter where they were living, locally or internationally. A special thank you to the wonderful care providers at Grove Memorial Community Hospital and Wellington Terrace Nursing Home, who provided extraordinary support in the last month of her life. A private family interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Parkinson’s Society or Catholic Missions In Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home, 519-749-8467).
