WELLINGTON COUNTY – The Wellington Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) welcomes Betty Farrell as the new superintendent of education.
Farrell is a Catholic educator with over 20 years of experience as a teacher, department head, program coordinator and administrator with the WCDSB.
“At the centre of all roles in (Catholic) education is the holistic formation of each of God’s children,” Farrell stated in a press release announcing her new role.
“I will ensure the seamless integration of faith, learning, and leadership and work tirelessly to promote student and staff well-being in a community committed to equity and inclusion.”
WCDSB director of education Michael Glazier said Farrell “is a faith-filled Catholic education leader with a great deal of knowledge and experience in curriculum and student success and an advocate for inclusive education.”
As superintendent, Farrell will continue to build relationships within WCDSB schools, and with families, trustees, community partners, parishes, and the Ontario Ministry of Education, the release states.
“Betty has been a valued and respected member of Wellington Catholic for a number of years, always focused on student success and our mission, vision and goals,” said Vikki Dupuis, chair of the WCDSB.
“We are very pleased that she has committed to sharing her gifts and strengths in a new leadership role with our administrative team.”
WCDSB officials say Farrell showed leadership and managerial skills as a vice-principal and principal. She has served on the board’s Indigenous Education Advisory Council, Assessment and Evaluation Committee and Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) Steering Committee.
She partners with local organizations to benefit youth in the community and is a lector and parishioner at St. Joseph, Guelph. She’ll begin her new role in mid-April.
