WELLINGTON COUNTY – Police here are providing few details about the incident(s) that led to sexual assault charges for a Barrie teenager.
On Feb. 23 the Wellington County OPP issued a short press release announcing that, “as a result of an ongoing investigation” a 17-year-old from Barrie was charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement.
“This case is considered isolated as the perpetrator was known to the victim,” police stated.
The press release did not say when or where the incident(s) occurred and it also did not note the age of the victim.
In response to an Advertiser request for information, OPP spokesperson Josh Cunningham said “details will be limited to respect the victim’s request for privacy.”
He added, “Our records show that the victim is an adult female and the accused is a youth male.
“We have identified the location as Wellington County to limit the risk of identifying the victim.”
