GUELPH – Two people were arrested, one of them charged with assault with a weapon, after a stabbing here sent two males to hospital and led to a lockdown at a nearby high school.
Guelph Police officials say emergency crews responded to the call, at a business on Eramosa Road near Stevenson Street North, at about 12:30pm on Feb. 15.
“Two males were transported to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening,” police stated in a press release, later adding both were released from hospital.
Nearby John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute was placed in lockdown and there were some initial inaccurate reports that the stabbing had taken place at the school.
Several other schools were placed in a hold and secure as a precautionary measure.
Police say “all these measures were lifted just before 2pm, after two males were arrested.”
An 18-year-old Guelph male was charged with assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He was to appear in Guelph bail court on Feb. 16.
Police say a second male arrested in the early stages of the investigation was released without charges.
