GUELPH – “Take the Stress out of IBS” (irritable bowel syndrome) will be offered in an online format this winter to help adults of all ages decrease symptoms of IBS or a stressed stomach that has flared up during COVID-19.
Diet and stress are the two greatest triggers of IBS symptoms and altered gastrointestinal function.
This program is provided by Kathy Somers of the Stress Management and High Performance Clinic in conjunction with Lindzie O’Reilly, the dietitian at the University of Guelph.
Topics will include the common food irritants to avoid, tips for symptom relief, mindful eating, stress management strategies, and the most helpful relaxation techniques (and types of biofeedback) to relax the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract.
These approaches will be helpful for those with IBS and people with a stressed stomach who would like to better regulate their digestive system.
The five-session online program runs on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30pm, beginning on March 1. The program fee is $99.
