GUELPH – Join Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis on Dec. 6 at 6:30pm at Marianne’s Park to remember the 14 women killed at L’École Polytechnique Montréal in 1989 and to honour all women who have lost their lives to femicide.
Dec. 6 marks the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
The day is an occasion to mourn the loss of those 14 murdered women, and an opportunity to speak out against the violence that continues to take the lives of women in local communities.
One woman or girl is killed in Canada every 2.5 days, according to a 2020 report by the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability.
Every six days, a woman is killed by her male partner.
Black, Indigenous, racialized, rural and 2SLGBTQIA+ women continue to be overrepresented among victims.
The vigil will offer space for reflection, healing and solidarity.
This is an in-person event. To protect the community, masks are strongly recommended.
