It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Doris Bernice Bowman (nee Mathers) of Fergus, Ontario on Wednesday, November 23rd at Groves Memorial Hospital in her 100th year. Doris was born on July 8, 1923 in St. Mary’s, Ontario. Loving mother to Nancy and David Watson. Devoted grandmother to Brian and Andrea Watson, Lisa and Jason Jacobs and Sara Watson. Proud great-grandmother to Jordan Watson and Parker and Cody Jacobs. She is predeceased by her son Robert Bowman, her parents Wilbur and Edith Mathers and her sister Helen (Bert) Russell. Doris loved watching the Toronto Blue Jay’s baseball games, knitting and traveling to many places over the years. She was always up for playing Cribbage, Uno or Yahtzee. Doris volunteered extensively within the community, with her United Church Parishes, Groves Memorial Hospital, a member of the Rebekah Lodge, and was a board member on the Fergus Fall Fair and the Centre Wellington Advisory Group for many years. Doris devoted herself to her family. Her family meant everything to her and was always there for them. The family will have many fond memories that they will cherish. A special thanks to the staff at Caressant Care Retirement Home in Fergus for their care and compassion. The family received relatives and friends on Monday, November 28th from 1:00 – 2:00pm with a service to follow at 2pm at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home in Fergus. Interment was held at the Elora Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
