Support – The Guelph Youth Music Centre (GYMC) team gathered Oct. 20 to celebrate a $50,000 “Community Building Fund” grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation that supported operations at the centre.
“This investment by the Ontario Trillium Foundation to support the Guelph Youth Music Centre’s operations during a particularly difficult time is great news for many in our community who use the Centre on a regular basis,” said Guelph MPP Mike Schreiner. “There are many in the community who will continue to benefit from the numerous programs offered at the GYMC today and in the days to come.”
The grant provided the GYMC with support to restart some programs, transition some programs online and/or cohort, increase wifi access to enable one-on-one video streaming lessons and rehearsals, pay for utilities, maintenance and repairs, maintain safety protocols, and keep registration and rental rates stable, allowing children to continue to engage at the Centre.
“The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be overstated,” said GYMC executive director Gabriella Currie-Ziegler. “This grant has allowed us to continue to operate and offer our programs and initiatives to children and youth in the community. When so many businesses had to close, we were able to keep our doors open and come back even stronger.”
