With dozens of country roads, autumn vistas and extraordinary gardens left to explore, Helen Anne Elizabeth Matthews, graciously passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022, just as the sunset’s last rays cast an amber hue over her beloved, century stone home. Surrounded by her children, the family’s pups, gentle hymns playing and the certainty that she was loved, she humbly surrendered to the journey that is next. Predeceased by her husband Grant in 1993, Helen had lived for 29 years and carved out the second half of her life alone. After 88 years of living fully, she was very sad to leave, but not afraid. Helen was Mom/Ma to her three sons Gary and Anne Matthews of Normanby, Jim and Barb Matthews of Burlington, and Ron and Deenie Matthews of Normanby, as well as to her two daughters Barbara Anne Matthews and Rex Warren of Listowel, and Heather and Bevan Weber of Carrick Township. Krista and John Frieberger, Grant & Kandis Matthews, Angela and Eric Rankin, Andrea Matthews, Derek and Holly Matthews, Scott and Katherine Matthews, Cam and Nicole Matthews, Barret and Samantha Weber, Megan Weber, Ben Warren, Emma Warren, and Caleb Warren, her twelve grandchildren and her eighteen beautiful, great grandchildren Saige, Jerica, Skyla, Maci, Harper, Giselle, Adeline, Ayla, John, Sam, Jayden, Kohen, Foxx, Maddix, Tripp, Boe, Ryker and Boyd are Grandma Matthews’ legacy. Lovingly she is survived by her sisters Elaine Kaufman, Joan Kaufman, Shirley Church, Ardelle Quigley, Carol Wiebe and Marilyn Bainard, sisters in law Laura, Evelyn and Trudy Klages and by her dear brother Brian Klages. Predeceased by her parents Norman and Bessie (Thompson) Klages, and her brothers Doug, Murray, Carmen and Glenn Klages, Helen felt comfort knowing they had gone before and were there to welcome her home. Helen’s brothers and sisters have rested at the very heart of her life and were her foundation. Visitation was held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston, on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service was held at Alsfeldt United Church, Normanby Township, on Saturday, October 28th at 11:00am. The service was recorded and the link available. Interment in Alsfeldt Cemetery. Memorial donation to Alsfeldt United Church would be appreciated. Online condolences at www.hardyleefuneralhome.com
