DEMERS, Dan

(1953-2022) – Passed away peacefully on October 16 at Wellington Terrace in Fergus. Born in 1953 in Welland, Dan attended Niagara College in the early 1970s, where he met his future wife Catherine (née Morley). He is also survived by his mother Helen Demers, brothers Rick (Joanne d.2022), Ray (Carol) and Ron, children Michael (Stephanie) and Pamela, and brother-in-law Doug Morley (Anna). Dan adored spending time with his five grandchildren (Lilly, Abigail, Victoria, Lucas and Jenevieve), never missing an opportunity to make them smile and laugh. He was predeceased by his father Henry (1992). Dan proudly served on the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force for 33 years, earning several decorations for his investigative work. He retired in 2009 from the Ontario Provincial Police. Dan’s love for the Leafs, Blue Jays, oldies, golden retrievers and puttering in the garage will never be forgotten. During his last years, Dan was fortunate to receive care at Groves Memorial Hospital, Homewood Health Centre, and Wellington Terrace. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Maple Ridge for their compassion, support and dedication. Dan will be missed by all he touched for his humour, gentle nature, and blue eyes. He was celebrated on October 22 with a viewing at 11:30 and service at 1pm at Memorial Gardens in Breslau. Donations may be made to Wellington Terrace or the Alzheimer’s Society of Waterloo-Wellington. If so desired a book of online condolences may be signed at www.memorycemetery.ca.
