CLIFFORD – Rotary TV Bingo is a weekly event that many subscribers to Wightman and Eastlink Internet participate in to from October to May.
In addition to the fun of the bingo games, people know the proceeds are spent by Rotary clubs on local projects.
The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the regular bingo schedule for several years, and by the time the weekly games resumed, the Listowel Rotary Club, which had collected for bingo for many years, had ceased to exist.
The Clifford Rotary Club was given the opportunity to take over collecting for TV Bingo from Listowel and Minto.
“Residents of Listowel buy a considerable number of bingo tickets from retailer Giant Tiger, and this created a problem for Clifford Rotarians, states a press release from the club.
How could Clifford Rotarians say thank you for the support in a way that would benefit Listowel?
One Clifford Rotarian, John McVicar, lives in Listowel and suggested three projects that would benefit from support from Clifford Rotary. The club chose the Perth School Milk Project organized by Dave Johnston, North Perth councillor in Elma Ward, and co-owner of Maplevue Farms.
On Sept. 13, Johnston talked to Clifford Rotary members about the project, which gave free milk to 8,000 Perth County students and teachers in February of 2022.
Clifford Rotary President Nick Oleksandriw presented Johnston with a cheque for nearly $1,700 to be used in the upcoming year’s program.
“Clifford Rotary felt that supporting this project was a great way to thank Listowel residents for their support of the bingo games,” club officials state.
