Fergus Fall Fair has games, animals, tractor pulls – fun for everyone

FERGUS – While the Fergus Fall Fair officially runs from Sept. 16 to 18, there will be a welcome back concert on Sept. 15 at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex to kick off the weekend.

And after a few events on YouTube in 2020 and a virtual fair in 2021, it’s about time to kick off this in-person fair with style, organizers say.

The concert features the Lucas Rogerson Band and Cara Smith. Gates open at 6:30pm and admission is $10.

The rest of the fair will be what you expect in order to highlight and show appreciation for agriculture and it’s important part in our heritage.

There will be the contests – handcrafts, vegetables and flowers, country produce and culinary arts.

There will be animals – beef and cattle contests on Sept. 17 as well as 4-H competitions.

On Sept. 18 there will the heavy horse pull at 10am and western games at 11:30am.  Sheep and goats will be judged at 11am and noon respectively. The junior poultry show is from 2:30 to 3:30pm.

The baby show is at noon on the Sunday and a pedal pull for kids is at 1pm.

Dog shows and agility displays will keep the family entertained.

There will be a  tractor pull on Sept. 16 at 6:30pm and the mini-modified pull on Sept. 17 at 6pm.

A classic car show runs from 10am to 3pm on the Sunday and the midway runs all weekend: 6pm to close on Friday; 11am to close on Saturday; and 11am to close on Sunday.

This is the 185th edition of the fair and organizers and volunteers are excited to be back.

Can they entice you to the stage? They’re going to try. The Fame of Fergus talent show is slated for Sunday as well. There are two categories: kids aged six to 12 and youth aged 13 to 21. The show begins at 2pm in the entertainment tent.

This year’s theme of the fair is “Sunshine, Showers and Fresh Cut Flowers” and residents are encouraged to enter the yard display contest. Businesses can also enter the contest.

Admission to the fair is $10 for the day and $15 for the evening for adults. For youth aged 13 to 18 it’s $8 and for kids six to 12 it’s $4. Children under five are free.

Weekend passes are $30; parking is $5 a day.

The fair runs 5pm to midnight on Sept. 16; 9am to midnight on Sept. 17; and 9am to 4:30pm on Sept. 18.
