TORONTO – Arthur fall fair ambassador Emma Smyth placed second at the Canadian National Exhibition’s (CNE) annual Ambassador of the Fair competition.
Joining more than 30 participants over three days at the CNE, Smyth was one of seven finalists who participated in the final round of the competition on Aug. 21.
Finalists were interviewed and judged on a wide range of criteria including: knowledge of the CNE and Canadian agriculture, poise, self-confidence, public speaking and overall impression.
Smyth was the first runner-up, and Mary Fizell from the Listowel Agricultural Society was the second runner-up.
Madelyn Grossi from the Sutton Agricultural Society was crowned the winner of the 49th annual competition.
Smyth currently works for Grand River Robotics in farm management support, where she trains farmers to utilize robotic milking devices.
In 2020, she received the Young Citizen of The Year award for her community involvement.
Her future goals include running her own dairy farm and travelling across Europe.
The Ambassador of the Fairs competition is a tradition at the CNE, aiming to educate and celebrate Canada’s rich history in agriculture.
Since its inception in 1972, the program has seen more than 3,000 participants from over 100 communities.
