Of Guelph, passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington on August 25, 2022 four days after her 49th birthday after a short, brave battle with a rare, aggressive sarcoma (cancer). Predeceased by her loving mother Florence (1999) and caring grandmother Rita (2000). Cherished wife of Richard Thompson. Beloved sister of Kevin (Krystal) and Brad (Annette). Daughter of Norman (Judith). Fondly remembered by nieces Carissa, Summer, Nicole (Isaac), Hannah, nephew Mathew (Yvanna) and in-laws Diane (Gordon), Pam (John) and Paul (Wendy). Debbie was an avid lover of travel, music, film, baking and animals. She will be greatly missed by her fur babies, Sasha and Oscar. Deb volunteered for several years at the Guelph Humane Society. She lived in Toronto, Fergus, Kitchener, Oakville and Guelph at different points in her life. Deb graduated from CWDHS in Fergus in 1991 and from Conestoga College in Kitchener in 1994 with a diploma in Business Administration-Accounting. A private celebration of life is planned for the future at Woodlawn Memorial Park. A cremation has taken place. Debbie especially enjoyed sessions with Catherine Manning, the resident music therapist. Also, warm thanks to the staff of Juravinski Cancer Centre (Hamilton) including Dr. Lalani, the nurses and the entire chemotherapy and radiation team. A tree will be planted in memory of Debbie McNey in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
